The Indiana Plant Atlas (IPA) was developed to make current information on Indiana's plants available to everyone, and to facilitate and coordinate education and research in the area of plant taxonomy, systematic, and floristics. The Indiana Herbarium Consortium maintains the Indiana Plant Atlas, a comprehensive source of information on distribution and nomenclature for over 3,500 plants growing outside of cultivation in Indiana. The Butler University's Friesner Herbarium coordinates the IPA and its access via the internet. The IPA provides information to public agencies, private companies, non-profit organizations, schools, and individuals around the state for environmental decision making and education.
The IPA was initially funded by a Butler University Innovation Grant to Rebecca Dolan. Subsequent support was provided by the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society and the Indiana Academy of Science through small grants. Annual expenses to maintain and update the IPA will be required.
